With humanity all but extinct, the remaining humans live behind three concentric 50 meter tall walls, each with its own name. The first wall is Maria, then Rose and surrounding the heart of the capital is the wall Sina. Within these walls humanity has remained safe from the titans. Nobody knows where these giant humanoid looking creatures came from, but these titans eat humans, not because they have to, but because they find some sort of pleasure in doing so. For the last one hundred years humanity has found a sanctuary behind these huge walls. Since titans range anywhere in height from 3 to 15 meters tall, everyone was safe. So, when out of nowhere a 60 meter titan showed up, no one could believe their eyes. This new Colossal Titan breaks through Maria, the first wall, letting the titans in to feast on the humans. During the death and chaos that followed the invasion, young Eren Jaegar and his sister Armin Arlert have to watch their mother die by the hands of a titan. Vowing revenge, Eren will do whatever it takes to see the death of every titan. What Eren doesn't know is, there lies a secret inside him that even he's not aware of... yet. That secret, lying dormant inside him, could be the power needed to change the tide of the war. Thus, giving humanity something they desperately need -- hope. A life of freedom, a life without the titan threat. All he has to do is find a way to control it.
From the get go, Attack on Titan got me hooked! I got pulled in by the epic sounding intro music, and by the first few minutes of the show I knew I had to keep watching it. The imagination of this storyline is filled with questions of "why" and "who" that continues to build the intrigue the longer it goes on. Even though the mystery of the storyline is slowly unravelled, you're far from bored as it plays through. Not only does this show have great looking and very clean animation, but the music, which is done by Hiroyuki Sawano, is even cool. This title has appeared on several mangas, video games, a television show and now there's talk about a possible a live action film (awesome!). It's not filled with a lot of gore but does have its moments, along with some great fight scenes. Some have stated the content of the show is a little too heavy. I say this kind of content/writing is what a good show should have more of. From the music, animation and story the whole thing just flows smoothly and is worth watching. Now, this review only covers season one and I can't freaking wait for the next season to start.
It's rated TV-MA for violence and gore.
