Gorecast #58 - The Masters of Horror

I’m super excited about these weeks upcoming show (and the next few shows to come) to say the least. The reason for this being the topic that my co-host and I have decided to hit. In 2005 Anchor Bay amassed some of the greatest horror film writers and directors to bring to you the anthology series, "Masters of Horror". For the first time, the foremost names in the horror film genre have joined forces for the series consisting of thirteen one-hour films each season.

The Masters Of Horrors inception took place 3 years prior, however. In 2002, director Mick Garris invited some director friends to an informal dinner at a restaurant in Sherman Oaks, California. The original ten “masters” attending were John Carpenter, Larry Cohen, Don Coscarelli, Joe Dante, Guillermo Del Toro, Stuart Gordon, Tobe Hooper, John Landis, Bill Malone, and Garris himself. The dinner was an extremely satisfying experience for the directors: a welcome night of camaraderie, humor and mutual admiration of one another's work. Del Toro coined the name of the group in jest when he told a nearby diner celebrating her birthday that the "Masters of Horror" wished her a happy birthday.

In 2005, Garris created and produced an original anthology television series of one-hour The series debuted to excellent reviews in the U.S. on October 28, 2005, with the premiere episode "Incident On and Off a Mountain Road," co-written and directed by Don Coscarelli, based on the short story by Joe R. Lansdale.
