Matt Ryan to Play Constantine in Pilot Episode
From Horromovies.ca :
Probably one of the biggest concerns “Constantine” fans have had about the proposed series for NBC was whether or not John Constantine would actually be a Brit this time around. It caused quite a hoopla when Keanu Reeves landed the role for the feature film as he was quite different then the character portrayed in the comics. Now we know who’ll be wearing the trenchcoat for the pilot and it might be a relief for some fans.
Welsh actor Matt Ryan is set to take on the role of John Constantine for the NBC pilot. InDeadline’s report they have this interesting tidbit about the character:
Constantine is described as a working-class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager. When the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.
No word if that’s the premise for the pilot, but it all aptly describes Constantine so it seems like their characterization of him will be pretty accurate. Ryan recently provided the voice for the main character in “Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag” and also starred in the series “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.” The pilot is being written by Daniel Cerone (“The Mentalist”) and David S. Goyer (recent Batman films).
