Scanners TV show in development
For about the last decade The Weinstein Co.'s Dimension Films held the rights to Scanners. Now, after winning a bidding war with multiple film and television studios (which included Lionsgate, Paramount, and Skydance), Michael Ellenberg's Media Res and Bron Studios have acquired the rights to David Cronenberg’s 1981 classic.
Now that Media Res and Bron Studios have the rights, they're working on developing a Scanners television series. Unfortanly, this isn't the first time someone came up with a tv series idea. Back when Dimension Films still had the rights they tried to develop a movie and a series, but neither worked out.
If all works out this time, Ellenberg will executive produce along with (Bron Studio's) Aaron L. Gilbert and Danielle Reardon. Also filling in the executive producer slots are Pierre David (executive producer on the original film) and Clark Peterson. Along with Rene Malo and Fanny-Laure Malo, who represents the rights holder on the property, Canda's Lauren Productions.
