I assume if you’re in my section of this website that you have great taste and love gore, and I’m not going to disappoint you. Today I’m reviewing Adam Chaplin. This is an Italian movie from 2011, it was written directed and starred in by Emanuele De Santi. This was his first ever movie and I personally can’t wait to see his next.
The movie is set in the fictional country of Heaven Valley and is about a man hell-bent on revenge. A man whose wife was torched and killed by a local mafia boss. Naturally he needs help and of course as we all would do, he summons a demon that lives in his shoulder. He forms an unusual bond with the demon that he names Derek as they go on a violent killing spree.
Now I know the plot of this to most may seem a little silly but the way its shot being ultra stylish and cartoon like at times make it work. The gore is off the charts , totally over the top, think Kill Bill type blood splatter times fifty or think Tokyo Gore Police if you are familiar with it . Chaplin seems to have the power of all hell when Derek is with him and often can be seen punching someone so many times that body parts explode.
Adam Chaplin is a must see movie for many reasons one of which being the characters, most have deformities of some kind. Then there is a local crazy killer that the cops enlist to try catch Adam, this dude looks like a homeless Ultimate Warrior. Also there is the mafia boss who does not have a face for reasons that they do explain , but instead of having a face he has a creepy black mask with an upside cross on it , the upside down cross is a feature that’s in the movie a lot .
In summery watch this movie it’s one of the only movies I’ve watched again straight after the first viewing, but that was mainly to see the gore without having to read subtitles. Anyway have a few beers kick back and enjoy the ride with this one.
